Purpose

To ensure the safety of children leaving our care if an intoxicated individual arrives to pick up a child.

Policy

If anyone appears to be under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, or any other intoxicating substance when they arrive at the centre to pick up a child, KidHub Staff will deny them from picking up the child.

Procedure

When confronted with an intoxicated individual attempting to pick up a child, KidHub Staff will:

• Inform the individual that they may not pick up the child while intoxicated
• Offer to call another contact on the child's authorized pickup list to pick up the child
• Offer to call a cab for the intoxicated individual
• Inform the individual that if he/she chooses to drive (with or without the child) that they will inform the police immediately
• Call the PEI Department of Child and Family Services if they believe the child is in need of protection
