Purpose

To familiarize parents with our KidHub HEROES program.

Policy

KidHub HEROES is a program to help teach leadership skills and practice positive behaviour and behaviour management within its programming. The KidHub HEROES mission statement is:

Helping Hands

Empathy Respect Open Minds and Ears Etiquette Safe Play

The program promotes the use of both group and individual management plans to ensure a positive atmosphere and to teach children teamwork strategies, leadership skills and self-advocacy.

Group Component

At the beginning of the program (School Year, Summer Camp), children will be divided into groups of 6-7 HEROES teams. Together, they will create a team flag and name that will be posted on the KidHub HEROES board. This will be their official HEROES team for the program.

The KidHub HEROES Board will display the following:

Each week, the teams will have the chance to earn a Friday Reward for positive behaviour. By following our mission for HEROES and displaying acts of positive behaviour, children will work toward the Friday Reward.

KidHub HEROES teams will receive a point when the group works toward the HEROES mission, displaying acts of positive behaviour and kindness. The team with the most points at the end of day each Thursday will receive the Friday Reward of their choosing.

Should a team display any negative behaviour (acts of physical/verbal aggression, unsafe play, not following the rules, or bullying), they can have a point erased, but they will always have a chance to earn it back if they work on following HEROES again.

Teams will have the opportunity to meet on Wednesdays every week to take part in team-building activities of their choice (in lieu of KidHub Clubs), check in with one another, and set goals as a group. A staff member will supervise the weekly group meeting.

Individual Component

We understand that sometimes in team work, there may be 1-2 within the team that may be having an off week and this could affect others in the group who are doing well with positive behaviour. We want to make sure those individuals are rewarded so the KidHub HEROES program also involves an individual component.

Children, in addition to their HEROES Team and team name, will choose an individual KidHub Super HERO name for themselves. Staff will have KidHub Super HERO Cards with their name and should the child be demonstrating positive behaviour through HEROES, they will be rewarded with a point. 10 points will reward the student with a Super KidHub HERO Reward from the Rewards Bin.
