To establish consistent protocols regarding the use of sunscreen in order to prevent sunburns on children in our care.
KidHub teachers will apply sunscreen anytime the Ultraviolet (UV) index is moderate (3) or higher. We use only sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 50 and will follow the instructions on the bottle for reapplication, typically every two hours.
If a child requires a specific type or brand of sunscreen due to allergy or sensitivity, parents must provide a clearly labelled supply for the centre. Teachers will notify parents when supplies are low, but it is the parents’ responsibility to ensure enough sunscreen is available. If sunscreen runs out while the UV index is moderate (3) or higher, parents will be contacted to provide more or pick up their child.
